WHEATON, Ill. - Freshman small forward
Delaney Sjong (Salem, Wis.) scored nine of her team-high 14 points in the first half but the Carroll University women's basketball team lost to second-place Wheaton College 82-36 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at King Arena on Wednesday night.
It was the third consecutive conference loss for Carroll, which dropped to 2-5 in the league standings and 5-11 overall.
The Pioneers were outscored 44-16 in the first half, including what became a decisive 18-6 margin in the opening quarter.
Freshman forward
Katie Rossetti (Wauconda, Ill.) followed with six points for Carroll, which made two 3-point baskets, 6 of 13 free throws and shot 26.4 percent from field-goal range.
Freshman guard
Anna Menges (Manitowoc, Wis.) had four points with freshman guard/forward
Hailey Herriges (Kewaskum, Wis.) and freshman point guard
Maycie Wiernik (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) each adding three points.
Hannah Frazier registered a double-double by finishing with a game-high 21 points with two 3-pointers, 10 rebounds, five blocked shots, two assists and a steal for Wheaton, which improved to 6-2 in conference and 12-4 overall. Maggie Dansdill added 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Thunder, who made nine 3-pointers, 9 of 10 free throws and shot 49.2 percent from the field.
Wheaton, which forced 20 turnovers, outrebounded the Pioneers 49-26 - including a 36-20 margin on the defensive glass.
