Hiemenz named head football coach

1/4/2006 12:00:00 AM

(Waukesha, Wis.) ??? Carroll College is pleased to announce that Henny Hiemenz has been named the college???s new head football coach.

Hiemenz replaces Jeff Voris, who earlier today was named head football coach at Butler University, a Division I-AA institution in Indianapolis, Ind.

???Although we are sad to see Jeff leave Carroll, we recognize he is leaving for a great opportunity,??? said Carroll Athletic Director Kris Jacobsen.

Hiemenz has been Carroll???s offensive coordinator and director of recruiting for the past three seasons. Prior to joining the Carroll staff in 2003, he was an assistant coach at Ithaca College, Illinois Wesleyan University and Utica College from 1999-2002. He was a three-year letter-winner at Ithaca College and was the starting fullback on the 1998 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference northwest championship team.

???We are very happy to be able to promote such a talented coach from within the Carroll program,??? said Jacobsen. ???Henny has been a major part of the football program???s resurrection over the past few years. He is definitely deserving of the opportunity to be Carroll???s head football coach.???

The Pioneers offense improved dramatically under Hiemenz???s leadership as points per game and rushing yards per game increased in each of the last three seasons. In 2002, prior to his arrival, Carroll averaged 17 points and 70 rushing yards per game. Those numbers increased to 36.6 points and 181.6 rushing yards per game in 2005. The Carroll offense finished the 2005 season ranked among the league???s best in many offensive categories, including first in the MWC in red-zone offense and fourth-down conversions.

???I am very excited to be named Carroll???s head football coach,??? said Hiemenz, whose recruiting efforts helped increase the team roster from 72 in 2003 to more than 110 in 2005. ???I enjoyed working with Coach Voris over the past three seasons and can???t thank

him enough for the opportunity he gave me. Now, I???m looking forward to leading our Pioneer student-athletes to even greater success.  The program is at the point now where we believe we should be contenders for the Midwest Conference championship every year.???

The Pioneers finished 6-4 overall in 2005, including a 6-3 mark in the MWC that tied the school record for most league wins in a season.

Hiemenz earned his bachelor of science degree in physical education (K-12) at Ithaca College and his master???s degree in sports psychology/health education at Illinois State University.
