INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Senior guard
Tanner Zaeske (South Milwaukee, Wis.) scored eight of his team-high 11 points in the first half as the Carroll University men's basketball team lost to Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) 65-56 in a preseason exhibition game at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Friday night.
Senior forward Aaron Brennan scored a game-high 15 points and grabbed six rebounds for NCAA Division I IUPUI, which led 30-25 at halftime and outscored the Pioneers 35-31 in the second half - including a momentum-shifting 12-8 run over the course of the opening seven minutes.
Sophomore guard
Nick Penny (Lake Zurich, Ill.) converted a layup to to cut the lead to 61-56 with 52 seconds remaining but Carroll couldn't get any closer.
Junior forward/center
Tyler Ingebrigtsen (Elk Grove, Ill.) followed with 10 points, five assists and four rebounds for Carroll, which converted 10 baskets from 3-point range and outrebounded the Jaguars 39-34.
Junior guard
Troy Howat (Plainfield, Ill.) chipped in nine points with Penny and junior point guard
Ben Widdes (Rice Lake, Wis.) each adding eight points.
The Pioneers, who built an early 10-5 lead in the contest, shot 38 percent from field-goal range but committed 20 turnovers.
