Pios struggle to sustain early momentum in loss

Rossetti, Wald, Sjong score in double figures in CCIW clash with Carthage

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University women's basketball team lost to Carthage College 66-53 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Van Male Field House on Wednesday night.
It was the second home-court conference loss for Carroll, which dropped to 2-3 in conference and 5-9 overall.
The Pioneers, who built a 10-3 lead over the course of the opening five minutes and led 16-15 at the end of the first quarter, couldn't maintain the early momentum - yielding a 30-10 run in what became a decisive second quarter.
Freshman forward Katie Rossetti (Wauconda, Ill.) registered her fourth double-double of the season by finishing with a team-high 15 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot  to lead Carroll, which made six 3-point baskets, 7 of 10 free throws and shot 35.1 percent from field-goal range.
Senior guard Brittney Wald (Antigo, Wis.) followed with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals for Carroll. Freshman small forward Delaney Sjong (Salem, Wis.) also contributed a double-double with 11 points - including 5 of 6 free throws - 11 rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot.
Freshman point guard Mallory Olszak (Crete, Ill.) chipped in seven points, four rebounds and three assists for the Pioneers, who were outrebounded 39-37. Freshman guard/forward Hailey Herriges (Kewaskum, Wis.) added five points.
Sophomore guard Sammie Woodward scored a career-high 21 points with seven 3-pointers to lead Carthage, which improved to 2-3 in conference and 9-5 overall. Sophomore guard Autumn Kalis added 11 points for the Lady Reds, who made 13 3-pointers, 7 of 13 free throws and shot 39.7 percent from the field.
