Box Score (Lake Forest, Ill.) – In a game that refused to end, the Pioneer men's soccer team ended their season in the Midwest Conference Tournament Semi-Final, falling to third seeded St. Norbert College 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
Launching 22 shots over 110 minutes, Carroll's offense kept the Green Knight's keeper on his toes, but he proved ready for the task, recording 7 saves.
A red card against St. Norbert in the 73
rd minute gave the Pioneers an advantage, but a stingy defense for the Green Knights kept enough pressure on to force extra time.
With neither team able to capitalize in either of the two extra periods, penalty kicks decided the winner.
Despite a final score of 4-3, both goalies shined in the stressful last minutes of the game. Carroll senior Tomek Miaskowski saved three dangerous shots, but fell just short of matching the Green Knights keeper who blocked four, including the final shot to send his team to the Final.
The Pioneers ended their season with a 13-4-2 overall record (9-1 MWC), having appeared in the Midwest Conference Tournament for the seventh straight year.
