Carroll loses heartbreaker on the road

Pioneers fall to Illinois Wesleyan 1-0

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Carroll University men's soccer team lost to Illinois Wesleyan 1-0 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game Saturday.
It was the third consecutive loss and fourth in the last five games for Carroll, which dropped to 0-2 in conference and 3-7-1 overall.
The Pioneers have suffered five, one-goal losses this season.
Sophomore midfielder Mason Meier scored what proved to be the winning goal on a header at the 58:07 mark for Illinois Wesleyan, which won its CCIW home opener to improve to 5-4-1 overall.
Meier initially missed on a penalty kick but successfully fielded the ball off a rebound and abruptly finished the play for the Titans, who outshot Carroll 16-9 - including a key 11-5 shot-on-goal margin.
Freshman defender Peanut Taylor (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) had two shots on goal for the Pioneers. Junior goalkeeper Jeremy Pasterz (Antioch, Ill.) had 10 saves in playing the entire 90 minutes.
