WAUKESHA, Wis. - Despite a valiant, hard-fought effort the entire way, the Carroll University men's soccer team lost to North Central 1-0 in a cool, damp College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Schneider Stadium on Wednesday night.
It was the fifth, frustrating one-goal loss of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 1-4 in conference and 5-9-1 overall.
After battling to a scoreless tie through the first 85 minutes of the contest, North Central finally answered with the winning goal as senior forward John Kissel scored off an assist from senior forward Chandler Olah at the 86:58 mark.
On the dramatic, game-winning shot, Olah took possession on the right side and immediately made a strong crossing pass toward the middle.
Seconds later, Kissel finished with a hard-lining shot into the back of the net to seize the momentum for North Central, which won its fourth straight to improve to 3-2 in conference and 6-7-1 overall.
It was the third conference shutout for the Cardinals, who outshot Carroll 18-5 in the contest - including a critical 9-1 shot-on-goal margin.
Senior midfielder Caden Pruitt (Ringwood, Ill.) had the lone shot on goal for Carroll. Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Drew (Milton, Wis.) finished with eight saves in the fast-paced, 90-minute marathon.
