Carroll suffers tough loss to No. 11 Carthage

Two second-half goals too much for Pioneers

KENOSHA, Wis. - Senior defender Ben Luitjens (Little Chute, Wis.) scored off an assist from senior midfielder Andrew Jend (Oregon, Wis.) in the 30th minute but it wasn't enough as the Carroll University men's soccer team lost to first-place No. 11-ranked Carthage College 2-1 in a rain-plagued College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Art Keller Field on Wednesday night.
It was the sixth frustrating, one-goal loss of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 2-5 in conference and 6-10-1 overall.
Carthage, which improved to 7-0 in conference and 15-3 overall, scored two second-half goals to complete the comeback.
Sahr Mahoney scored on an unassisted game-tying shot in the 47th minute and Alberto Elyza followed with the winning goal at the 69:09 mark for the Red Men, who outshot Carroll 21-5 - maintaining a 7-3 shot-on-goal margin.
Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Drew (Milton, Wis.) had five saves in playing the entire 90 minutes for the Pioneers.
