WHEATON, Ill. - Senior forward Casey Weyhrich (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore forward Rachel Van Sluys (Sheboygan, Wis.) each scored an unassisted goal in the first half as the Carroll University women's soccer team defeated Wheaton College 3-1 in a cool, cloudy College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game Saturday.
It was the first conference victory of the season for Carroll, which improved to 1-1-1 in the league standings and 9-3-1 overall.
Weyhrich scored in the 24th minute and Van Sluys followed with the game-winning goal at the 34:03 mark for the Pioneers, who have won two consecutive games and four of their last five.
Sophomore forward/midfielder Delaney Pruitt (Ringwood, Ill.), who has a team-high 10 goals on the season, scored off an assist from Van Sluys in the 85th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Christina O' Block (Libertyville, Ill.) was a stabilizer throughout the contest, making six saves to preserve a victory.
Sophomore midfielder Madison Peebles had an unassisted goal in the 85th minute for Wheaton, which dropped to 2-1 in conference and 5-7 overall.
