ELMHURST, Ill. - Senior forward/midfielder
Sabrina Georgeff (Naperville, Ill.) scored the winning goal at the 107:56 mark as the Carroll University women's soccer team outlasted Elmhurst College 2-1 in a dramatic, double-overtime College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Langhorst Field on Saturday afternoon.
It was a critical second straight conference road victory for Carroll, which kept its postseason hopes alive by improving to 3-1-2 in the league standings and 11-3-2 overall.
With the nail-biting victory, the Pioneers took another step toward securing a berth in the prestigious CCIW Tournament by moving into sole possession of third place with two regular season games remaining.
Carroll is scheduled to host Carthage on Wednesday, Oct. 25 and Millikin on Saturday, Oct. 28.
On the game-winning sequence in the 107th minute, Georgeff gained control of a rebounded shot and abruptly fired a low-lining ball that landed within the far post.
The contest remained scoreless until Carroll junior forward/midfielder
Delaney Pruitt (Ringwood, Ill.) scored off an assist from junior forward
Rachel Van Sluys (Sheboygan, Wis.) in the 87th minute.
Elmhurst answered back as Kim Stanczak scored on a header on an assist from Brittany Reinhart in the 89th minute to tie the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Christina O' Block (Libertyville, Ill.) played the entire way, making two crucial saves to help preserve a victory for the Pioneers, who had 12 corner kicks and outshot Elmhurst 17-8 - including a 10-3 shot-on-goal advantage.
