Carroll finishes season with hard-fought loss

Knackstedt scores first goal of season against Millikin

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Senior defender Jimmy Knackstedt (Johnsburg, Ill.) scored his first goal of the season off a double assist from sophomore defender Peanut Taylor (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) and freshman midfielder Carlos Guzman (Chicago, Ill.) at the 43:32 mark but the Carroll University men's soccer team lost to Millikin University 3-1 in a cold, windy College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin season finale at Schneider Stadium on Saturday night.
It was the fourth straight loss for Carroll, which finished the season 1-7 in the conference standings and 3-14-1 overall following the hard-fought, emotional Senior Night performance.
Senior midfielder Hunter Somers scored two goals, including what proved to be the winning unassisted shot in the 44th minute for Millikin, which ended the season 2-5-1 in league and 5-10-2 overall.
Sophomore midfielder Bradyn Nokes added a goal on an assist from senior midfielder Michael Longo in the 81st minute for the Big Blue, who outshot Carroll 15-7 - including a key 9-4 shot-on-goal margin.
Senior goalkeeper Jeremy Pasterz (Antioch, Ill.) registered four saves in playing 71 minutes for Carroll.
It was the final game for Carroll's hard-working group of nine seniors comprised of Knackstedt, Pasterz, midfielder Tlaloc Huerta (Delavan, Wis.), forward Brandon Johnston (Raleigh, N.C.), midfielder Aleksandar Spasic (Hudson, Wis.), defender Nick Popp (New Berlin, Wis.), midfielder Franck Ngassa (Milwaukee, Wis.), midfielder Kieran DeGroot (De Pere, Wis.) and T.K. Amaleboba (Accra, Ghana).
