WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University women's basketball team lost to No. 19-ranked, first-place Wheaton College 102-37 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Van Male Field House on Saturday afternoon.
Carroll, which dropped to 1-14 in conference and 1-22 overall, was outscored 50-22 in the first half - including what became a decisive 23-7 margin in the opening quarter.
Junior forward Morgan Lund (Mondovi, Wis.) had a team-high 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal to lead the Pioneers, who made four 3-pointers, 9 of 19 free throws and shot 23.5 percent from field-goal range. Junior point guard Brittney Wald (Antigo, Wis.) followed with 10 points, three rebounds and a steal for Carroll, which was outrebounded 53-19. Freshman guard Caylee Koker (Kenosha, Wis.) added nine points and a team-best seven rebounds.
Sophomore guard Kelly Thornton scored a game-high 22 points with five 3-pointers for Wheaton, which won its fifth straight to improve to 13-2 in conference and 20-4 overall. Senior guard Katie McDaniels had 13 points, six rebounds and 10 assists for the Thunder, which converted 12 3-pointers, 10 of 13 free throws and 60.6 percent from the field.
