Growth process continues for Carroll

Pioneers fall to league co-leader Illinois Wesleyan

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Junior forward Morgan Lund (Mondovi, Wis.) scored eight of her team-high 14 points in the first half and grabbed seven rebounds but the Carroll University women's basketball team lost to league co-leader Illinois Wesleyan 85-45 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at the Shirk Center on Saturday.
It was the eighth consecutive loss for Carroll, which dropped to 1-11 in the conference standings and 1-19 overall.
The Pioneers were outscored 45-30 in the first half, including what became a decisive 29-14 margin in the opening quarter.
Freshman guard Caylee Koker (Kenosha, Wis.) followed with 11 points - highlighted by 8 of 8 free throws - for Carroll, which made three 3-point baskets, 14 of 18 free throws and shot 32.6 percent from field-goal range. 
Junior point guard Brittney Wald (Antigo, Wis.) had seven points and sophomore guard Sara Hartl (Racine, Wis.) added six points for the Pioneers, who generated a confidence-building 16-point second quarter to match Illinois Wesleyan but committed a costly 36 turnovers in the contest.
Junior guard Molly McGraw scored a game-high 21 points for Illinois Wesleyan, which improved to 9-2 in conference (tied with Wheaton) and 14-6 overall. Senior guard Amanda Kelly had 12 points for the Titans, who converted seven 3-pointers, 8 of 14 free throws and shot 52.2 percent from the field.
Illinois Wesleyan, which outrebounded the Pioneers 35-31, scored 39 points off of turnovers.
