Swimming and Diving Wins One of Four at Carthage

Kenosha, Wis. – The Carroll University men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to CCIW foe Carthage today, to not only face the Red Men and Lady Reds, but the North Central Cardinals as well. The women were able to split the day winning against North Central (194-34) but suffering defeat against Carthage (188-92). The men were stifled by both teams, falling 107-69 against North Central, and 162-45 against the Red Men from Carthage.
 
The women only claimed one first place finish on Saturday from Jordan Andrews in the 100 backstroke. Her time of 1:01.6 was two seconds faster than her finish last week, and only .23 seconds faster than second place finisher Ingrid Hay. The Pioneers claimed five more individual second place finishes from Emily Wong (200 fly, 2:21.23), Amanda Klaeser (500 freestyle, 5:42.94), Ellie Heiman (100 fly, 5:42.94), and Lindsey Coons (200 backstroke, 2:11.12; 100 IM, 1:03.33). Coons' finish in the 200 backstroke was just .03 seconds off the leader. The women grabbed a team relay second place in the 200 freestyle relay. Other Pioneers finishing in the top five of their events include Grace Fanshaw, Danielle Martini, Anina Lee, Kara Loy, Allison Kriegler, Erin Paschke, and Elena Faia.
 
 
The men faced a little harder of a challenge, but were able to come away with two second place finishes from Zach Mirza in the 100 freestyle (53:01), and Damian Barkow in the 200 backstroke (2:19.66). Jerry Hinson, Kentarrius Braxton, and Chris Fabian secured top five finishes in their respective events. The men pulled together a second place finish in the 200 yd freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.99.
 
 
The Pioneers will take the Thanksgiving weekend off before heading back over to Kenosha where Carthage will host the two day Carthage Classic on Friday and Saturday, December 6-7.
