Struggles continue for Pioneers

Johnson completes 23 of 34 passes for 220 yards in CCIW road loss to Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Sophomore wide receiver Alex Kujawa (Oshkosh, Wis.) scored on a 1-yard run to cap an 11-play, 65-yard drive with 7:10 remaining as the Carroll University football team lost to Augustana College 34-6 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Lindberg Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
It was the regular season road finale for Carroll, which dropped to 1-7 in the conference standings and 2-7 overall.
Augustana, which improved to 4-4 in league and 5-4 overall with the Senior Day victory, scored 20 unanswered points in the momentum-shifting first half - including 14 points in the decisive second quarter.
Senior quarterback Zachary Fuller completed 7 of 15 passes for 152 yards and connected on what became an eventual game-winning 64-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Tom Dolis to extend the lead to 13-0 with 13:18 left in the opening half.
Senior running back Bobby Jarosz rushed 22 times for 184 yards and two touchdowns for the Vikings, who amassed 23 first downs and 529 yards of total offense - 377 yards coming behind its running attack.
Junior quarterback Michael Johnson (West Allis, Wis.) completed 23 of 34 passes for 220 yards and rushed 12 times for 41 yards for Carroll, which finished with 15 first downs and 304 total yards - averaging 4.7 yards per play.
Senior tight end David Meza (Berlin, Wis.) finished with six receptions for 78 yards, freshman wide receiver J.R. Muth (Greendale, Wis.) had six catches for 45 yards and Kujawa added four catches for 32 yards for the Pioneers, who converted on 4 of 13 third-down opportunities.
Junior linebacker Justin Kontny (Milwaukee, Wis.), who entered the contest as the CCIW's leader in tackles, registered 10 tackles for Carroll. Junior linebacker Zach Netchin (Glendale Heights, Ill.) contributed seven tackles with senior defensive back Peter Dombai (Chicago, Ill.), junior defensive back Logan Heckman (Menomonee Falls, Wis.), junior defensive back Grayson Wilson (McFarland, Wis.) and junior defensive lineman Adam Miller (Manteno, Ill.) each adding six tackles.
