Decatur, Ill. – The Carroll University men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Decatur, Ill. today to open CCIW competition against Millikin University. The men fell to 0-3 on the season by a score of 40-134, and the women were hit with heartbreak, falling 100-105.
For the women,
Ingrid Hay finished first in two events, the 200 freestyle (2:07.18) and the 200 backstroke (2:16.03).
Lindsey Coons took home a first place in the 200 IM (2:16.32) and
Amanda Klaeser brought home a win in the 500 freestyle (5:43.12). The Pioneers had two second place finishes from
Jordan Andrews (200 backstroke, 2:17.14) and
Emily Wong (100 Butterfly, 1:01.16), and recorded six 3
rd place finishes from
Madeline Nelson (two events), Klaeser,
Erin Paschke (two events),
Kara Loy, and
Anina Lee.
The men weren't able to take home any golds, but finished with three second place finishes from
Zach Mirza (50 freestyle, 24.07),
Kentarrius Braxton (100 butterfly, 1:02.89), and
Damian Barkow (500 freestyle, 5:55.58). Barkow and Mirza also took home third place finishes, including
Jerry Hinson and
Michael Beckman in two events.
The women took second and fourth in the 400 Medley relay, and first and fourth in the 400 freestyle. The men finished second in both of the respective relay races. Both teams will swim in their first multi-team tournament of the season next weekend at Lawrence University for the Gene Davis Invite.
