BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -
Ashley LaBelle earned a three-set victory at No. 1 singles as the Carroll University women's tennis team defeated Illinois Wesleyan 8-1 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin dual meet at Beadles-Morse Courts on Sunday.
It was the third conference victory of the season for Carroll, which improved to 3-4 in the conference standings and 5-5 overall.
The victory took on added significance as it was the Pioneers' third consecutive victory over Illinois Wesleyan dating back to 2019.
LaBelle overcame a one-set deficit but showcased her resilience by defeating Wesleyan's Amber Shuang 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
Sophia Dekker (No. 2),
Maya Gaedtke (No. 3),
Madison Ostrander (No. 4) and
Francesca Grimes (No. 6) each added a singles victory for Carroll.
LaBelle and Gaedtke combined for a victory at No. 1 doubles, Dekker and Ostrander followed with a win at No. 2 doubles with the No. 3 tandem of Grimes and
Rachel Papp adding a victory.
