Carroll Men Beaten at Home

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's soccer team fell to the Illinois Wesleyan Titans at home on Saturday afternoon by a score of 1-2. Josh Gonzaga scored the lone goal of the contest for Carroll.

The Pioneers (8-6-1, 1-4-1 CCIW) outshot the Titans and led in total possession for the contest, but were unable to overcome two first-half goals. Carroll had one corner attempt to IWU's three. In a chippy contest, Wesleyan recorded 21 fouls to Carroll's 12, with yellows to Adrian Komperda and head coach Derek Marie.

After Komperda's yellow in the 15th minute inside the box, Wesleyan scored on a PK to go up 1-0. Eight minutes later, the Titans drove down the far side of the field and beat two Carroll defenders and Tyler Hanson to score its second goal. Carroll only recorded one more shot in the first half.

In a slower, more contested second half, Gonzaga scored assisted by Nolen Tranchita from about 20 yards out in the 86th minute. The Pioneers rushed to try to equalize the contest, but couldn't get another opportunity.

Carroll will spend its final two games on the road, starting with the makeup contest at Augustana on October 27.
