NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Carroll University men's soccer team fell in the season ending contest to the North Central Cardinals on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers fell in a closely contested battle, being on the wrong side of a 1-0 decision.
The Pioneers (8-8-1, 1-6-1 CCIW) got off 13 shots with six opportunities on goal. The Pios held off five of six shots on goal from the Cardinals, including three in the first half.
Ryan Coughlin generated four shots to lead the team, while
Zane Walters took two shots off the bench.
The Cardinals scored quickly in the first half, scoring in the fifteenth minute. Carroll took five shots in the first half, but none of them found the back of the net.
Neither team was able to generate much possession or attack in the second half, until Coughlin took a shot on net in the 78
th minute with a save in the top left corner of the goal. Coughlin's second shot on goal opportunity came in the 83
rd minute, and the save all but locked up the win for the Cardinals.
The Pioneers finish at or above .500 for the first time since 2014. Carroll took 320 shots this season, and finished with 33 goals.
