Waukesha, Wis. – The Carroll University women's basketball team will now hosting the Augustana Vikings on Thursday, March 4 at 7 PM in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Women's Basketball Tournament.
The Pioneers (6-5, 6-5 CCIW) are now a No. 4 seed matching up with the new No. 5 Vikings. The Pioneers and the Vikings faced off twice this season, splitting 1-1 with both road teams gaining victories. Carroll's last game against Augie came on Saturday, February 27 in the regular-season finale in Waukesha. The Pioneers fell late to the Vikings, 67-69 after five Pios scored in double digits.
This marks the first CCIW tournament appearance for the Pioneers in program history, and the first time Carroll has hosted a conference tournament since the 2002 Midwest Conference Championship Tournament. The last time the Pioneers won a conference tournament title was in 2006 after defeating the number one seeded Lake Forest College in the MWC.
The Pioneers have trended towards the top this season, sitting fourth in offensive points per game (64.1) and fourth in defensive points allowed per game (61.1). Carroll is shooting 40% from the field this season, in part from
Elizabeth Behrndt's league-leading 76.3% field goal percentage.
