Box Score ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Carroll University women's soccer team fell in the CCIW season opener on Saturday afternoon in Rock Island, Illinois. The Pioneers fell 0-1 in OT to Augustana, off a goal scored in the 100
th minute.
The Pioneers (7-2-1, 0-1-0 CCIW) Controlled the majority of the contest, playing with 55 percent possession. Carroll took 14 shots, seven of which were on target, to just 8 and 3 from Augustana.
Elizabeth Weinberg led the group with four total shots, while Simone Lippman and Weinberg added two shots on goal each.
The Pioneers and Vikings traded shots back and forth in the first fifteen minutes of the contest. Weinberg's two shots on goal came in the 41
st and 45
th minutes, but both attempts were stopped low left by the Augustana keeper.
Grace Tumilty had the first shot on goal for Carroll in the second half, but saved mid right by the keeper. Simone Lippman's two shots on goal were the only two Pioneer shots taken inside the 18-yard box all game. Weinberg's final shot of regulation sailed wide right in the 89
th minute.
In the start of OT, the Vikings struck first with a shot high in the 94
th minute. Carroll responded with a
Kaitlyn Zanon shot that sailed wide right in the 99
th minute. Augie put the nail in the coffin in the 99:13 minute mark on a low left goal to seal a victory.
Carroll will reappear on September 29 against Beloit in a non-conference matchup at Schneider Stadium.
