Men’s Soccer Picks up Non-Conference Road Win

No rust showing for the rested Pioneers

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's soccer team picked up right where they left off on Wednesday night with a 2-0 win over Lawrence University. Josh Gonzaga and Ethan Pequignot both scored in the contest.

The Pioneers (7-1, 0-0 CCIW) jump back into game action for the first time in 12 days after postponements with other programs. Carroll didn't skip a beat, landing 24 shots to Lawrences' 10. Gonzaga, Pequignot, Zane Walters, and Andrew Schuhmacher all took three shots apiece. The possession was fairly even for both teams, with the Pios taking a 52-48% advantage.

Carroll went to work early, putting a shot on target in the first six minutes of the half. After the first 15 minutes, Carroll went quiet as they made substitutions, and spent more of their time playing defense against the Vikings.  Gonzaga broke the tie in the 30th minute with an unassisted goal from just inside the top of the box and missed the keeper low left. Carroll kept the pressure on but Lawrence pulled out another save in the first half.

Tyler Hanson picked up his two saves within 10 minutes of each other in the second half. Carroll broke the game open with a 2-0 lead thanks to Pequignot, who was assisted on the goal by Parker Nimmer. Carroll continued to harass the Vikings in the second half, but nothing else was getting past the Lawrence keeper, who finished with nine saves.

Carroll will get its first CCIW game started on Saturday, October 2 against Wheaton at Schneider Stadium. The Pioneers fell to Wheaton the last time they played back in 2019.
