Football Downed by No. 15 Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. – The Carroll University football team suffered a 9-61 loss on the road to Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon. Keon Miller had 177 all-purpose yards, 114 of which came from kick returns. Jake Binkowski led the team with seven total tackles.
 
The Pioneers (4-3, 3-3 CCIW) surrendered the first 61 points of the game before they were able to get on the board in the fourth quarter. The Pioneers recorded just 206 yards of total offense while giving up 663 to Wheaton. The Pios converted four first downs on 12 attempts and held the ball for just 22:48. Austin Eichstaedt caught the lone touchdown of the game for Carroll, while Joshua Wilkes returned a blocked extra point for a two-point safety.
 
The Thunder forced two three-and-outs and scored each possession in the first quarter. Carroll completed their first, first down of the game at the end of the first quarter. Josh Raby had the Pioneers at the Wheaton eight-yard line, but the Thunder intercepted the pass and scored 10 plays later. The Thunder went into halftime with a 41-0 lead.
 
Carroll's touchdown drive spanned nine plays over 60 yards. After starting on their own 40-yard line, Carroll picked up four first downs on the drive, three of which were through the air. Raby connected with Eichstaedt on third and goal from the four-yard line. The thunder ran out the clock in their final possession in the Carroll red zone.
 
The Pioneers will return to Schneider Stadium this Saturday, October 29 as they host Carthage College in the coveted Old Musket Trophy Game.
