WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's soccer team picked up their first CCIW win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Millikin on Saturday at Schneider Stadium. The Pioneers won their fifth-straight game thanks in part to a goal and assist by
Ryan Coughlin.
The Pioneers (6-3, 1-0 CCIW) took 25 shots and held Millikin to six, with 11 attempts on target.
Nico Hinten Llorens led the team with five shots, followed by four from
Zane Walters. Carroll took eight corner kicks, including seven in the first half, and held the ball for an even 50% of the game.
Tyler Hanson tallied one save in goal while allowing one shot to find the back of the net.
The Pioneers took six shots before the first one found the back of the net. After a blocked shot by
Josh Venouziou got played back towards the midfield, a pass up the low sideline from Coughlin found Venouziou in the middle of the box who took a low show to the left and scored. Carroll went right back to work taking another shot in the 24
th minute that was saved. Millikin saved five more Pioneer attempts and Hanson recorded his first save at the end of the first half.
After Marti Solanellas Viella was fouled in the penalty box, Coughlin lined up for his third PK attempt of the season and placed the ball high left for the eventual game-winner. After numerous charging attempts by the Big Blue, they found the goal in the 82
nd minute on the high side of the goal. The Big Blue continued to pressure but weren't able to tally another shot as the Pioneers held on for the win.
Carroll continues to CCIW season on Wednesday, September 28 against Carthage at Schneider Stadium.
