Pioneers Get Road Victory Over La Verne

Box Score LA VERNE, Cali. – The Carroll University men's soccer team rallied for three goals on 18 shots in the win over La Verne University on Sunday night in La Verne, California. The Pioneers picked up their 3-1 victory over the Leopards with two goals from senior Jack Daly, who led the team with six shots.
 
The Pioneers (1-1) rebounded after a tough loss on Friday night, taking 18 shots, including 12 in the second half. Tyler Hanson continued to stay hot, picking up the win, and seven saves on eight shots on goal, including a PK save. Daly, Thomas Rodriguez, and Giovanni Zagato all had multiple shots on the night.
 
Marti Solanellas Vilella started hot for the Pioneers, scoring in just the first 18 seconds of the game for his third goal in two games. After two more Pioneer shots, Daly earned his first goal in the 4' minute. La Verne didn't get their first shot against the Pios until the 8' minute but scored in the 28' minute to make the score 2-1. Hanson had two saves in the first half facing seven shots. Hanson's second save of the first half was the penalty kick in the 42' minute, which would have tied the game at two goals all.
 
Daly earned his second goal in the 69' minute of the game and was soon after more with a header shot off target 29 seconds later. The Pios forced La Verne to make five saves in the second half with their 12 total shots. Hanson picked up four more saves in the second half.
 
Carroll will return to Wisconsin this week and play in their home opener against Wisconsin-Platteville on Tuesday at 7:30 PM in Schneider Stadium. The Pioneers last faced Platteville in 2016 and came away with a 4-1 victory.
