BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Carroll University women's basketball team's six game winning streak came to an end on Saturday night against Illinois Wesleyan, after a 55-78 loss.
Olivia Rangel led the Pios with 10 points.
The Pioneers (14-7, 9-3 CCIW) shot just 38.3% from the field and only made 2-11 three pointers. Carroll turned the ball over 29 times leading to 27 IWU points off turnovers. Carroll scored 33 points from the bench, led by eight points from
Emilie Wizner.
Rangel kept the game close early on in the first quarter completing a successful three-point play, but Wesleyan churned out a 9-3 lead in the first two minutes.
Natalie Gricius scored four points off free throws and
Lauren Soyke scored a three-point play to cut the Titan lead to four going into the second quarter. The Pioneers hung with the Titans for the opening minutes of the second, but the Titans started a 6-0 run to force a Pioneer timeout. Rangel scored her 10
th point of the game on free throws with two minutes left until halftime, but the Titans took a 46-32 lead going into the break after outscoring Carroll 29-19.
The Titans extended their lead to as high as 29 points in the third quarter after holding the Pioneers to just 10 points. The Pios worked the lead down to 23 to end the game.
Carroll has one more road game left in the regular season, slated for Wednesday, February 8 at Elmhurst at 7 PM.
