WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's men's soccer team opened their 2023 season in style Friday night, defeating Lakeland University 2-1 in what was the first game of the Carroll Quad. The Pioneers also held a 19-3 shot advantage, including 9-0 in the first half.
Carroll (1-0) wasted no time getting on the board, scoring their first goal just three minutes into the new season when Marti Solanellas scored on an assist from
Zane Walters.
Solenalles doubled the Pios lead in the second half with his second goal of the contest coming in the 66th minute. Lakeland (0-1) would make things interesting late, as Dirk Dell Adema got the Muskies on the board via Penalty Kick in the 72nd minute. The Pioneers' defense then held firm for the last 18 minutes to secure the victory.
Jesper Johannassen earned the Goal Keeper decision for the Pioneers, playing all 90 minutes between the pipes. Lakeland saw two Goal Keepers (Zach Heiman and Ben Taylor) combine for eight saves, while each played one half of the contest.
The Pioneers will be in action again on Sunday when they'll battle Saint John's (Minn.) at 1:30 p.m. in the final game of the Carroll Quad. That game can be seen live at
