Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Carroll Punches Ticket To Saturday's CCIW Championship Game

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's women's soccer team defeated Wheaton College 2-0 Wednesday night in the semifinals of the CCIW Tournament. That advances the Pioneers to the CCIW Tournament Championship Game for the second consecutive year and secures the program's fourth consecutive 11-win season.

The two teams were deadlocked in a scoreless tie for the first 35 minutes of Wednesday's game, before Carroll (11-4-2) broke through with Mari Sagstad's team-leading 11th goal of the season, thanks to a double assist from Brielle Ingalsbee and Grace Tumilty. A three-time First Team All-Conference performer, Tumilty doubled that lead in the final minute of the half when she found the back of the net off a well placed corner kick.

Carroll has now gone 463 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal. 2024 CCIW Goalkeeper of the Year Caitlin Fitzsimons notched her 10th shutout of the season, which ties a career-best, while extending her school record for career shutouts to 25. Fitzsimons recorded two saves on the night, while Wheaton Goalkeeper Elizabeth Netz made nine saves.

The win advances the top-seeded Pioneers to Saturday's CCIW Championship Game at 6 p.m. as the CCIW regular season champions will battle second-seeded North Central (IL). That game will be played at Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wis., which was the site of Carroll's 2-1 win over the Cardinals earlier this season when North Central was ranked 15th in the country. The Cardinals enter Saturday's game with eight consecutive shutouts of their own.
