Carroll Women's Soccer Falls to Wheaton Despite Strong Second-Half Push

WHEATON, Ill. – Carroll University women's soccer dropped a 3–1 decision to Wheaton College on Wednesday night at Joe Bean Stadium, despite a spirited second-half effort that saw the Pioneers outshoot the Thunder 11–5 after halftime.

Wheaton (6-4-6, 3-1-3 CCIW) struck early, scoring three times in a six-minute span midway through the first half. Lauren Walmer opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a curling corner kick that found the back of the net. Two minutes later, Cami Tofilon doubled the lead off a quick combination with Olivia Martin, and Martin capped the run in the 18th minute with a header into the top corner.

Carroll (5-5-5, 2-4-1 CCIW) regrouped after the break and controlled possession, finishing with a 17–13 edge in shots and earning its lone goal in the 80th minute. Carmella Nowak converted a through ball from Ellie Patrickus, driving a low shot inside the right post for her fifth goal of the season. The Pioneers generated multiple chances late, including saves on attempts by Nowak, Addie Decker, and Brielle Ingalsbee, but Wheaton goalkeeper Leah Roe preserved the win with six saves.

Carroll keeper Ava Lewandowski recorded five stops while facing eight first-half shots. The Pioneers held a 57% possession advantage and limited Wheaton to just two corner kicks after halftime, but could not overcome the early deficit.

Carroll returns home Saturday, October 25, to face Illinois Wesleyan at Schneider Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
