Second-Half Surge Lifts Carroll Past Carthage in CCIW Play

KENOSHA, Wis. – Carroll University men's soccer rallied from an early deficit to earn a 2-1 road victory over Carthage on Wednesday night at Art Keller Field. The win improves the Pioneers to 5-5-1 overall and 2-1-0 in CCIW play, while Carthage falls to 1-6-2 (0-2-1 CCIW).

The Firebirds struck first just 64 seconds into the match when Bram Wolkenfelt converted off an assist from Emmitt Hansen. Carroll responded with relentless pressure, outshooting Carthage 20-11 and forcing nine saves from goalkeeper Aaron The. Despite generating 11 first-half shots, the Pioneers entered halftime trailing 1-0.

Carroll's breakthrough came early in the second half. In the 47th minute, Alec Behringer netted the first goal for the Pioneers, finishing a setup from Henry Picard to level the score. The Pioneers continued to dominate possession and chances, and their persistence paid off in the 85th minute when Marti Solanelles scored his third goal of the year on an unassisted strike, sealing the comeback win.

Solanelles was a constant threat, firing 14 shots with six on target, while Behringer and Matthew Meke added key contributions in the midfield. Goalkeeper Uriel Garcia anchored the defense with five saves, including two critical stops late to preserve the lead.

Carroll held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks and limited Carthage to just five second-half shots. The Pioneers' composure after conceding early showcased their resilience and ability to control tempo in conference play.

With the win, Carroll moves above .500 in league action and will look to build momentum heading into the next CCIW matchup that comes this Saturday as they travel to Millikin.
