Carroll Battles to 1-1 Draw with UW-Stevens Point

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Carroll University men's soccer earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against a tough non-conference foe in UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday night at Schneider Stadium. The Pioneers move to 3-5-1 on the season, while the Pointers stand at 8-1-2.

The match featured a defensive battle early, with both teams trading fouls and limited chances in the opening half. Carroll goalkeeper Jason Brunger came up big with two first-half saves to keep the Pioneers level until the 41st minute, when UWSP's Marcelo Chavez broke through with a free kick from the top of the box that was well placed to give the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Carroll responded with resilience after the break, generating more possession and earning multiple corners. The breakthrough came in the 79th minute when Nico Hinten netted his first goal of the season, as the defender took the ball from the 40 yard mark and took it all the way to the box to equalize at 1-1. The Pioneers' back line, anchored by Nathan Patzer and Nate Preissig, held firm against late UWSP pressure, while Brunger finished with two saves in 90 minutes of action.

UW-Stevens Point outshot Carroll 8-5 and held a 9-4 edge in corner kicks, but the Pioneers' defensive organization and timely goal secured the result. Both teams finished with 50% possession in a physical contest that saw three yellow cards issued, including two to Carroll.

Carroll returns to CCIW play this Saturday at Schneider Stadium as they face Augustana at 3:30 for Senior Day.
