Carroll Falls to UW-Whitewater in Non-Conference Road Match

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Carroll University men's soccer team battled UW-Whitewater on Wednesday evening, but a late first-half goal and an early second-half strike lifted the Warhawks to a 2-0 victory. The loss moved the Pioneers to 4-10-1 on the season.

Carroll generated several quality opportunities during the opening half, putting three of its first four shots on goal. Nathan Patzer, Obada Altahat and Iskander Sharipov each tested Whitewater goalkeeper Austin Waite during the opening 21 minutes, but Waite turned away all three attempts.

The Pioneers remained scoreless despite finishing the first half with five shots, three of which were on target. UW-Whitewater eventually broke through just before halftime as Caleb Bergman scored in the 44th minute off an assist from Nil Calvo Alsina, sending Carroll into the break trailing 1-0.

The Warhawks doubled their advantage shortly after play resumed. Hayden Saul found the net in the 50th minute, with Luke Konrad and Waite credited with assists, pushing the Whitewater lead to 2-0.

Carroll continued to create chances following the second goal. Christian Meraz put a shot on frame moments before Whitewater's second goal, while Max Pusic and Giovanni Aguilar each forced saves during a two-minute stretch later in the half. The Pioneers ultimately finished with six of their eight shots on goal.

Angel Escamilla played the opening 77 minutes in goal and recorded three saves, while Carter Abels made one save over the final 13 minutes. Carroll also received one team save as the Pioneers finished with five total saves.

The Pioneers return to CCIW play on Saturday when they travel to Elmhurst for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
