CHICAGO, Ill. – The Carroll University women's tennis team came up short on the road Sunday morning, falling 5-2 to North Park in CCIW action at River Park Courts. The Pioneers picked up a doubles victory and earned two singles wins but were unable to overcome the Vikings in the conference matchup.
Carroll opened the day with a win at No. 1 doubles as the duo of Pupovac and Trifilio secured a 6-4 victory to give the Pioneers an early point. North Park answered by claiming the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches, taking a 2-1 advantage into singles play.
In singles action, Mia Franke battled back after dropping the opening set at No. 3 singles, rallying for a 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 victory over Jessica Dudas. The win marked Carroll's lone singles point outside of the bottom flight.
The other Pioneer victory came at No. 6 singles, where Siminski claimed a three-set triumph. After taking the first set 6-4 and dropping the second 3-6, Siminski responded with a thrilling tiebreak third-set performance that saw her win 14-12 to secure the point for Carroll.
Several other matches were tightly contested. At No. 1 singles, Pupovac pushed Alexandra Pugachova before falling 6-3, 7-6, while Trifilio took her No. 2 singles match to a deciding third set before North Park's Katharina Schuler escaped with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 victory.
With the result, Carroll moves to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in CCIW play. There next matchup comes Friday when they head back to Waukesha to host Millikin at 3:30pm.
