WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's soccer team put together a solid defensive performance Wednesday evening but was unable to find the equalizer in a 1-0 loss to Loras at Schneider Stadium.
The match remained scoreless through the opening half, with both teams recording four shots on goal combined over the first 45 minutes. Angel Escamilla made an early save for the Pioneers, while Carroll's defense helped keep the visitors off the scoreboard despite a slight edge in shot attempts.
Carroll threatened offensively throughout the contest. Edin Hajric led the Pioneers with three shots, including two on target, while Max Pusic added two shots and one on goal. Christian Meraz also tested the goalkeeper with a shot on frame in the second half.
The decisive moment came in the 63rd minute when Loras scored the lone goal of the match to break the scoreless deadlock. Carroll continued to push forward in search of an equalizer, earning two second-half corner kicks and placing three shots on target after halftime, but the Pioneers were unable to draw level.
Escamilla finished with four saves for Carroll, matching the four saves made by the Loras goalkeeper. The Pioneers recorded eight total shots and four shots on goal, while Loras held a 16-8 advantage in overall shots. Possession was nearly even, with Loras owning a slight 52-48 edge.
Carroll falls to 2-4-0 on the season following the setback, but have multiple opportunities to rebound at home this weekend with their next match up against Colorado College on Friday night at 7pm back at Schneider Stadium
