WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University men's soccer team ran into one of the nation's top programs Friday night, falling 6-0 to Colorado College at Schneider Stadium. The Tigers improved to 4-1 on the season, while Carroll moved to 2-5 overall.
Colorado College controlled play from the opening whistle, holding a 21-5 advantage in shots and a 10-1 edge in corner kicks. The Tigers also put 10 shots on goal and finished with 60 percent of the match possession.
The visitors broke through in the 20th minute when Zeke Lubin finished off a pass from Arlo Sollinger for the opening goal. Colorado College added a second tally in the 29th minute off the foot of Grayson Capodanno before Aris Lindquist found the back of the net just before halftime to send the Tigers into the break with a 3-0 lead.
Carroll generated four of its five shots in the opening half. Haavard Snekkevik, Nathan Patzer, Max Pusic, and Gregory Beres all registered attempts as the Pioneers looked to find momentum against a nationally ranked opponent.
Colorado College continued its pressure after halftime, benefiting from an own goal in the 57th minute before Lubin added his second score of the evening less than 10 minutes later. Ethan Johnson capped the scoring in the 81st minute to give the Tigers the 6-0 final margin.
Angel Escamilla made three saves in the opening 45 minutes for Carroll, while Carter Abels entered at halftime and stopped two shots in the second half. The Pioneers' lone shot on goal came from Obada Altahat in the 78th minute, but Colorado College goalkeeper Spencer Besselaar made the save to preserve the shutout.
Nathan Patzer, Pusic, Beres, Snekkevik, and Altahat each recorded a shot for Carroll, with Altahat producing the team's only effort on frame. Giovanni Aguilar and Christian Meraz each logged the full 90 minutes in the midfield, while Liam Stokes also played the entire match on the back line.
Carroll will look to bounce back Sunday when it concludes its homestand with another tough test against #8 Chicago at 3:30pm.
