WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll University women's soccer team picked up its second consecutive draw Sunday afternoon, battling MSOE to a 1-1 result at Schneider Stadium. The Pioneers moved to 0-1-2 on the season while the Raiders left with a 1-1-1 record.
Carroll wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, finding the back of the net in the ninth minute. Ellie Patrickus finished a chance in the 8:34 mark off assists from Ellie Pierson and Gabby Courtois, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Patrickus' first of the season and marked Carroll's lone shot on target of the opening half.
The Pioneers carried their 1-0 lead into the break despite being outshot 4-3 in the first 45 minutes. Goalkeeper Ava Lewandowski made a save late in the half to preserve the lead heading into intermission.
MSOE increased its pressure after halftime and eventually found the equalizer in the 58th minute when Faith Papazoglou scored off her own blocked shot sequence to even the match at 1-1. The Raiders held a 6-2 advantage in second-half shots and finished with a 10-5 edge overall.
Lewandowski came up with three saves for Carroll, including two in the second half, as the Pioneers withstood seven Raider corner kicks and a possession disadvantage. Carroll generated several late opportunities, including a saved chance from Carmella Nowak in the 85th minute, but neither side could find a winner before the final whistle.
The Pioneers finished with six corner kicks and received assists from Pierson and Courtois on their lone goal of the afternoon.
The Pioneers next chance comes on Wednesday as they stay home at Schneider Stadium to take on UW-Stevens Point at 7pm in another nonconference tilt.
