Matthew Amburgey is in his second season as an assistant football coach with Carroll University in 2023, where he is in charge of the running backs.
Amburgey comes to Carroll from Kentucky Wesleyan, where he served as the running backs coach and Special Teams Coordinator from 2019-22. Prior to that, he served in a similar role for two years at Kentucky State, where he also spent an initial stint as the running backs coach from 2013-16. Amburgey also served as the Defensive Coordinator at Woodford County (Ky.) High School from 2016-17 and as the Shelby County (Ky.) linebackers coach in 2012.
A native of Frankfort, Ky., Amburgey earned his bachelor's degree from Kentucky State in 2015, before earning his Master's at Western Kentucky one year later.
He and his wife Alex currently reside in New Berlin, Wis. with their two sons Jaidan (17) and Kingston (2), and their dog Simba (8).
