Prior to beginning her coaching career, Hernandez put together a decorated collegiate playing career at Purdue Northwest, earning NFCA Second Team All-Midwest Region and Second Team All-GLIAC honors in 2025. During her time with the Pride, she also set program career and single-season records for runners caught stealing and earned Academic All-GLIAC recognition in 2026. In addition to her collegiate career, Hernandez competed for the Minot Honeybees of the Northwoods League, helping the team reach the league's inaugural championship in 2025 before earning Northwoods League All-Star honors in 2026.

She graduated from Purdue Northwest with a degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree at Carroll University.
