(Waukesha, Wis.) – Lamont Williams and Justin Butterfield combined for a total of 291 yards and three touchdowns to lead Carroll University to a 30-24 victory over archrival Ripon College.

The victory improved the Pioneers’ record to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in the Midwest Conference while the Red Hawks sunk to 0-2 overall, 0-1 in league play.

Casey Legan and Tyler Ostrander added to the mix by rushing for 42 yards and receiving for 79 yards, respectively. Both scored a touchdown in the second quarter.

Steven Korus led Carroll’s defense with 12 tackles while Neal Laynge helped stifle the Red Hawks with eight tackles and one interception. Also a defensive force, Jeremiah Walsh had nine tackles.

The Pioneers won on Carroll’s annual “Community Day”.  All fans received free admission to the game.

Next in line for the Pioneers is Knox College on Saturday, Sept. 15. The Prairie Fire will kick off with a record of 0-2 overall, 0-1 in the MWC.
