Waukesha, Wis. - The Carroll Univesrity football team had no difficulty turning a rain-washed Homecoming celebration into an audience-roaring celebration of Pioneer athletics, downing Lawrence University 48-14.

From the kickoff, the Pioneers looked like they were in control as Andy Laurin ran 43-yards on the return. From there, it took Lamont Williams and the Pioneer offense took just under four minutes to put the first points on the board.

The Vikings looked poised to match the opening score, collecting 40 yards in four plays, but Marcus Radue picked off the next pass and returned it to Lawrence's 37-yard line. The Pioneers scored their second touchdown of the game just over a minute later.

Laurin and quarterback Tyler Schovanec connected less than two minutes into the second quarter to keep the offense rolling, bringing the score to 20-0.

With 5:34 left in the half, the Pioneers gave the ball back to Williams. Fourteen seconds and 83 yards later, he had his third touchdown of the game.

After the kickoff, the Vikings connected for a quick 11 yards, but missed their next three passes. Then came the punt.

Ty Zimmerman knocked the ball out of the air shortly after it was kicked, then scooped it up for a 20-yard touchdown return. 34-0, Pioneers.

Williams rounded out the half his final touchdown of the day, a 12-yard run after a nice 39-yard pass between Schovanec and receiver Matt Sklander.

Halfway through the third quarter, Carroll got their final score, this time on a 14-yard pass to Travis Wysong.

Lawrence finally got on the scoreboard in the final minute of the third quarter after returning an interception, but wouldn't score again until nine minutes into the fourth, which was ultimately their last.

The Pioneers rushed for a total of 314 yards, 216 of which came from Williams. His season total, through four games, is 567 yards.

On defense, Nate Meinen sacked the quarterback twice while Mark Spratte led the team with 8 tackles. Raude added 7 tackles to go with his interception.

The win brought Carroll to a 3-3 record overall, going 2-3 against Midwest Conference opponents. They are off next week, but will take on Grinnell College Oct. 26 in Iowa.
