Box Score (Waukesha, Wis.) - Alec Molter's layup 26 seconds into the game turned out to be the game-winning basket for the Carroll University men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon. Molter's layup gave the Pioneers a lead they would not relinquish in their 61-49 victory over Cornell College.
The victory improves Carroll to 13-7 overall, 10-5 in the Midwest Conference while the Rams fall to 8-11 overall, 5-9 in league play. The Pioneers extended their winning streak to four games.
Carroll, who entered the week leading the country in field goal percentage, connected on 54.5% of its shots against Cornell. At the other end of the floor, the Pioneers defense limited the Rams to just 32.6% shooting.
Carroll went into the break leading 33-20 but Cornell was able to reduce the deficit to seven points (40-33) with 10:50 remaining in the game. The Pioneers responded with an 8-0 run to reestablish their dominance. Carroll's largest lead of the game was 17 points with 1:02 to play.
Alec Molter and Kevin Hurd led CU with 16 points each while grabbing seven and six rebounds, respectively. Christian Shepley added eight points and a team-best seven assists.
