ROCKFORD, Ill. - Tanner Zaeske (South Milwaukee, Wis.) scored 22 of his team-high 26 points in the first half to lead the Carroll University men's basketball team to an 84-71 victory over Rockford University in a nonconference game at the Seaver Center on Tuesday evening.
It was the first road victory of the regular season for the Pioneers, who remained undefeated with a 3-0 overall record.
Carroll outscored Rockford 43-26 in what became the decisive first half, highlighted by 17 unanswered points over a critical, momentum-shifting four-minute span.
Zaeske, a 6-foot-3 junior guard, had nine points to help power the explosive run - including a 3-point basket to extend the lead to 28-20 with 5:06 remaining.
Sophomore forward Tyler Ingebrigtsen (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) followed with a season-high 21 points, team-best nine rebounds, three steals and an assist for the Pioneers, who converted 10 baskets from 3-point range and 16 of 19 free throws.
Sophomore guard Ben Widdes (Rice Lake, Wis.) had 11 points, a team-high nine assists, four rebounds and two steals for Carroll, which shot 49 percent from the field. Senior guard Kyle Keranen (Hartland, Wis.) followed with seven points, five assists and two steals.
Senior guard Joel Heesch (Mauston, Wis.), sophomore guard Troy Howat (Plainfield, Ill.) and freshman guard Nick Penny (Lake Zurich, Ill.) each added five points for the Pioneers, who continued their unselfish play with 19 assists.
Carroll scored 19 points off of turnovers in the contest.
Senior forward Zach Wallace had a double-double for Rockford, finishing with a game-high 31 points and pulling down 15 rebounds for the Regents - who dropped to 0-3 overall.
