Carroll powers to third place in tournament

Keranen named to all-tourney team

CHICAGO, Ill. - Kyle Keranen (Hartland, Wis.) had a game-high 22 points, four 3-point baskets and four assists as the Carroll University men's basketball team defeated East-West University 93-76 in the third-place game of the University of Chicago Thanksgiving Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
It was a season-high point total for the high-powered Pioneers, who bounced back from their first loss of the season and improved to 4-1 overall.
Carroll led 36-32 and put the game away by outscoring East-West 57-44 over the course of the final 20 minutes - including a key 12-4 run over a three-minute span.
Keranen, a 6-foot-1 senior guard, scored 14 points in the second half en route to being named to the all-tournament team for the Pioneers, who converted seven 3-pointers and 24 of 35 free throws.
Keranen, one of two seniors on the roster this year, finished the two-day event with an impressive 52 points to lead Carroll.
The Pioneers displayed their depth and balance throughout the contest with 10 players scoring, highlighted by four in double figures.
Sophomore guard Ben Widdes (Rice Lake, Wis.) followed with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals for Carroll, which shot 48 percent from field-goal range and scored 21 points off of turnovers.
Junior guard/forward Tanner Zaeske (South Milwaukee, Wis.) had 17 points and six rebounds.
Freshman guard/forward Charlie Soule (Oregon, Wis.) was a force off of the bench, scoring 16 points - including 8 of 10 free throws - and ripping down seven rebounds in 15 minutes played.
Sophomore forward/center Tyler Ingebrigtsen (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) added nine points and seven rebounds for the Pioneers, who scored 44 points in the paint.
Carroll outrebounded East-West 46-34, including a 31-24 advantage on the defensive glass.
Senior guard Tyshaun Smallwood had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds for East-West, which made seven 3-pointers and shot 45 percent from the field.
