SHERMAN, Texas - Junior guard/forward Tanner Zaeske (South Milwaukee, Wis.) scored 12 of his team-high 14 points in the second half but the Carroll University men's basketball team lost to Austin College 75-60 in a nonconference game Saturday afternoon.
It was the fourth nonconference road loss of the season and completed a two-game trip to the Lonestar state for Carroll, which dropped to 6-5 overall.
Despite trailing 39-27 at halftime, the Pioneers fought back to trim the deficit to 48-44 on a 3-point jumper by sophomore guard Ben Widdes (Rice Lake, Wis.) with 13:15 remaining but couldn't get any closer down the stretch.
Sophomore forward/center Tyler Ingebrigtsen (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) followed with 13 points and six rebounds for the Pioneers, who made 14 of 21 free throws but only converted four times from 3-point range.
Widdes contributed nine points, three rebounds and two assists for Carroll, which shot 41 percent from field-goal range, maintained a 35-26 rebound advantage but committed an uncharacteristic 20 turnovers. Senior guard Kyle Keranen (Hartland, Wis.) chipped in seven points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Freshman guard Nick Penny (Lake Zurich, Ill.) had six points and sophomore guard Ray Pierce (Milwaukee, Wis.) added five points.
Senior guard Jeremy Swisher scored a game-high 16 points for Austin, which improved to 5-6 overall. Junior guard Josh Quinn had 14 points for the Kangaroos, who converted seven 3-pointers, 12 of 21 free throws and shot 56 percent from the field.
Austin, which led by as many as 16 points in the contest, scored 30 points on turnovers.
