(Waukesha, Wis.) - The Carroll University women's basketball team jumped out to a 17-9 after the first quarter but couldn't hang on in a 59-53 loss to Cornell College.
Following their big first quarter, the Pioneers were able to take a 29-23 lead into halftime. The third quarter became CU's downfall, with the Rams outscoring the home team 23-12 to lead 46-41 heading into the fourth quarter.
Carroll made a run in the final period and pulled to within 55-52 with 3:48 to play but Cornell would outscore the Pioneers 4-1 down the stretch.
Brittany Groer recorded team highs in points (13) and rebounds (7) to lead Carroll while Brittney Wald and Morgan Lund added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Emma Kopp and Malory Christenson added eight points each.
