(Kenosha, Wis.) – The Carroll University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Carthage College.
The Lady Reds edged the Pioneers in the opener, 2-0. Game one was dominated by both starting pitchers (Shelby Sommer for CU), who yielded just four hits each.
Carthage plated both of its runs in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run home run.
Carroll earned the 2-game split with an 8-6 come-from-behind victory.
The Pioneers led 3-1 through three innings of game two but the hosts scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 6-3 advantage.
Carthage maintained its 6-3 lead through five innings but Carroll exploded for four runs in the top of the sixth inning and an insurance run in the seventh inning.
Hannah Miller earned the win for CU. She pitched a complete game and gave up nine hits and just one earned run.
Micah Clutter, Annika Graves and Kelly Sykes each recorded two runs driven in to lead CU offensively.
