(Waukesha, Wis.) – The Carroll University softball team breezed past Knox College in a pair of Midwest Conference games to set up a chance to clinch an MWC tournament berth on Sunday versus Monmouth College.
 
The Pioneers showed no mercy against the visiting Prairie Fire, winning both games in five innings at 9-1 and 8-0.
 
Hannah Miller struck out nine Knox batters in five innings of work. She surrendered just two hits and one earned run in the victory.
 
Offensively, Micah Clutter led the way with a 3-for-3 performance which included three runs driven in, two runs scored and a triple. Veronica Rodriguez was 1-for-2 with a home run while Kelly Sykes drove in two runs on 2-of-4 batting.
 
Shelby Sommer took the ball for CU in game two and had the same impact as Miller. Sommer went the distance and gave up just two hits in the shutout victory. She struck out six batters.
 
Kelly Strasser was the offensive hero in this one, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, which included a home run. Sykes went 3-for-3 and scored three runs while Alyson Gartland went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.
