ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Senior guard Kyle Keranen (Hartland, Wis.) scored a game-high 24 points but the Carroll University men's basketball team lost to first-place Augustana College 85-66 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at the Roy J. Carver Center on Saturday evening.
It was the second conference road loss of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 3-3 in the league standings and 8-7 overall.
Augustana, which received 40 votes in the latest D3hoops.com national poll to remain just outside of the Top 25, improved to 5-1 in conference aand 12-3 overall.
Carroll was outscored 41-21 in the first half, including a momentum-shifting 10-2 run over a key three-minute span.
Sophomore forward Tyler Ingebrigtsen (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) followed with 14 points and five rebounds for the Pioneers, who converted five 3-point baskets and 15 of 17 free throws. Freshman guard/forward Charlie Soule (Oregon, Wis.) had 11 points and five rebounds.
Freshman guard Nick Penny (Lake Zurich, Ill.) contributed nine points and four rebounds for Carroll, which shot 36 percent from field-goal range and committed 13 turnovers.
Senior guard Jacob Johnston scored a team-high 15 points for Augustana, which made five 3-pointers and 24 of 27 free throws. Sophomore guard Chrishawn Orange and sophomore forward Pierson Wofford each added 14 points for the Vikings, who shot 62 percent from the field and maintained a 33-29 rebound advantage.
