WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University women's basketball team struggled to overcome a slow start
and lost to third-place Elmhurst College 90-49 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Van Male Field House on Wednesday.
It was the third consecutive conference loss to an upper-tier team for Carroll, which dropped to 1-6 in league and 1-14 overall.
Elmhurst, which improved to 5-2 in conference and 13-3 overall, outscored the Pioneers 45-15 in the first half - including what became a decisive 27-9 run in the second quarter.
Junior guard Brittney Wald (Antigo, Wis.) had team-high 17 points, five rebounds, three steals and an assist to lead Carroll, which made 17 of 23 free throws but just two baskets from 3-point range. Freshman guard Caylee Koker (Kenosha, Wis.) contributed 12 points with junior forward Morgan Lund (Mondovi, Wis.) following with 10 points, a team-best seven rebounds and two steals for the Pioneers, who shot 34.1 percent from field-goal range. Sophomore guard Sara Hartl (Racine, Wis.) added seven points.
Junior 6-foot guard/forward Mikaela Eppard scored a game-high 27 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for Elmhurst, which made six 3-pointers, 8 of 10 free throws and shot 59.4 percent from the field. Senior guard Kalia Summerlin had 13 points and junior guard Hannah Henderson added 10 points for the Bluejays.
