Pioneers battle to scoreless tie with Augustana

Carroll remains in contention for CCIW Tournament

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Carroll University women's soccer team played to a scoreless tie with Augustana College after 110 minutes (including 90 minutes of regulation and two, 10-minute overtime periods) in a cold, blustery College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Thorson-Lucken Field on Sunday afternoon.
It was the second league draw of the season for Carroll, which moved to 1-1-2 in the highly contested conference standings and 9-3-2 overall.
The Pioneers, who claimed one of the top four spots in the conference last year to qualify for the prestigious CCIW Tournament, currently remain in sole possession of sixth place with four regular-season games remaining.
Carroll is scheduled to face third-place North Central (3-1) on Oct. 18 and seventh-place Elmhurst (2-3) on Oct. 21 in back-to-back road games. The Pioneers will finish the key, four-game stretch at home versus fifth-place Carthage (2-2) on Oct. 25 and eighth-place Millikin (0-3-1) on Oct. 28.
Carroll outshot the Vikings 13-12 in the contest but struggled to take advantage of a 6-4 shot-on-goal margin.
Junior forward/midfielder Delaney Pruitt (Ringwood, Ill.) generated three shots on goal for the Pioneers, including a potential winning corner kick that was saved by Augustana freshman goalkeeper Sydney Ion in the 109th minute of the double-overtime marathon.
Junior forward Rachel Van Sluys (Sheboygan, Wis.) sophomore defender Aeleesa Medina (Waukesha, Wis.) and freshman midfielder Kasi Pagach (Alexandria, Va.) each followed with one shot-on-goal opportunity.
Sophomore goalkeeper Christina O' Block (Libertyville, Ill.) had four saves in playing the entire way for Carroll, which finished with six corner kicks.
Junior midfielder Jordyn Sundberg had two shots on goal for Augustana, 2-1-1 in conference and 7-5-1 overall,. Senior midfielder Grace Iaquinta and sophomore forward Anna Frank added one each. Ion finished with six saves for the Vikings, who registered their first tie of the year.
